Dubai Airports Launches World's Largest Rooftop Solar Project at DXB and DWC

Dubai Airports and the Etihad Clean Energy Development Company are working together to build the biggest solar panel project on an airport roof in the world. As part of this big project, 62,904 solar panels will be put on the roofs of Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC). This will make Dubai's efforts to be more environmentally friendly in energy and flight much stronger.

The project, which should be finished in 2026, will produce 60,346 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy every year. This huge amount of power is expected to meet 6.5% of DXB's electricity needs and 20% of DWC's energy needs. The solar panels will provide 39 megawatts peak (MWp) of energy once they are up and running. This will make it the world's biggest airport-based solar project.

Along with its size, the project has a big effect on the environment. The renewable energy that is made will cut carbon emissions by about 23,000 tonnes per year, which is the same as taking 5,000 cars off the road for a year or powering 3,000 houses. This will help Dubai reach its long-term goal of lowering its carbon footprint and meeting its sustainability goals in line with global pledges to action on climate change.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said that the partnership was a big step forward in the airport's efforts to be a good environmental caretaker. Griffiths said in a statement, "This project shows how we're continuing to make our operations more environmentally friendly and strengthens Dubai's position as a world leader in sustainable development." “This is a big step towards greener energy and aviation practices, and it also helps Dubai reach its goal of becoming a zero-carbon city by 2050.”

The placement of the solar panels is part of Dubai Airports' larger sustainability program, which also includes efforts to save energy, cut down on waste, and promote cleaner technologies. The project fits with the UAE's plan for a greener future and helps reach the goal of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which is to get 75% of the emirate's energy from clean sources by the middle of the century.

Etihad Clean Energy Development is one of the project's most important partners. It is a leader in green energy solutions, especially in the Middle East. Large-scale solar and clean energy projects have been made possible in the UAE and other places thanks in large part to this company. Working together, these two groups will not only help Dubai's airports leave less of a carbon footprint, but they will also set an example for the rest of the world's aviation business when it comes to building sustainable infrastructure.

Solar panels will be strategically placed on different roofs of both DXB and DWC. This will be done with great care to make sure that airport activities are interrupted as little as possible. The project will also save the airports money in the long run because it will use solar power along with other energy sources. This will help keep energy costs in the region from going up too much.

Dubai continues to establish itself as a global centre for sustainability and innovation. This rooftop solar project is a major accomplishment that pave the way for more environmentally friendly changes in the flight industry. The UAE's forward-thinking approach to energy is shown by the world's largest installation of solar panels at an airport. This project also makes a big addition to global environmental goals.
