Director Mira Nair is set to adapt the 2020 Pulitzer Prize finalist New York Times story and podcast The Jungle Prince of Delhi as a drama series for Amazon.
Filmmaker Mira Nair is set to adapt "The Jungle Prince of Delhi," a Pulitzer Prize-finalist article from The New York Times, into a drama series for Amazon Studios. The original story, penned by journalist Ellen Barry, delves into the intriguing tale of a family residing in a dilapidated palace in Delhi, who claimed lineage from the royal family of Oudh (Awadh).
The article, published in November 2019, was also featured in a podcast by The New York Times and became a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize. Nair, acclaimed for films like The Namesake and Monsoon Wedding, will direct and executive produce the series. The project is being developed in collaboration with Amazon Studios and Sister Pictures, known for producing the award-winning series Chernobyl.
This adaptation aims to bring to light the enigmatic narrative of the so-called "royal family of Oudh," exploring themes of identity, displacement, and the lingering shadows of India's partition.
As of now, specific details regarding the series' release date and casting have not been announced.
